Benefits Of Keeping A Gratitude Journal Of Your Life

During the current times a lot of people find it hard appreciate just how good our lives really are. One only has to look back at what life was like say 20 years ago to see how much average incomes and standards of living have improved. This was so classically and humorlessly exemplified in the following youtube video.  We have much in our lives that is truly exciting that we should be grateful for.

Benefits Of Being Grateful

In the class book The Science of Getting Rich, Wallace D. Wattles said

“The grateful mind is constantly fixed upon the best. Therefore it tends to become the best. It takes the form or character of the best, and will receive the best.”

As Sarah Ban Breathnach writes in her book “Simple Abundance”,
when you start a gratitude journal you

..will have set in motion an ancient spiritual law: “The more you have and are grateful for, the more will be given to you”.

Being grateful puts things in a completely different perspective. You will find yourself being happier and people will find you more fun to be around. From personal experience I know my own life and that of our family has improved since I changed my negative attitudes to focus on gratitude. We now intend to seed an attitude of gratitude in our children as well so today we purchased some empty notebooks for each member of the family to use as gratitude journals.  For our children I asked them to write only happy things that happened during the day. They actually enjoyed the process, with the added benefit that their writing and spelling skills will improve as well.

Tips for Keeping A Gratitude Journal

Your gratitude journal should be very personal and reflect your positive thoughts of the days events. If you can’t think of what to write start with the words “I am grateful and happy for..”

You need to make it a habit, so force yourself to write an entry every night for 30 days in a row. A good idea is to keep your journal under your pillow so you are always reminded to write an entry before going to sleep.

Lastly don’t worry about spelling or grammar just write from the heart.
