One man’s passion turns an ecological waste land into a habitat for orangutans and a renewable resource for villagers.
It’s extremely sad to think of what loggers are doing in Malaysia and Indonesia. Whole species of trees and animals disappearing. I admit it is all to easy to give up and say everything is hopeless. Out of sight out of mind. How can anyone be happy and excited by life when there is so much corruption and exploitation of the planet. I am glad to say that some passionate people are making a difference. I am sure you will be excited and amazed when you see the video below. An amazing organization actually managed to change the local climate and re-grow back the forest on a tract of hopeless ecologically dead waste land created by logging. At the the same time 80 families are supported sustainably on land that previously could not support life. Nature can recover if we allow it. We just need more passionate people like Willie Smits.
You Can Help
Please when you shop at your local supermarket look on the back of any product you buy. If a product contains palm oil please do not purchase. Unfortunately the shelves of supermarkets are full of products containing palm oil and contribute to the annihilation of rainforest wildlife and habitat. Palm oil is included in some ice creams, biscuits, margarine and even in toothpaste, soap and cosmetics.
You can also donate to RedApes.org to help the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation.
