Is life just a giant hologram? The search for gravitational waves may have found evidence that life is a hologram.
Scientists have been looking for gravitational waves for years without success. These so called ripples in space-time are generated by super dense neutron stars and black holes. To prove that they exist a number of large detectors stretching hundreds of meters have been built, but so far these waves have remained illusive.
In the process of searching for these gravitational waves scientists at the GEO600 experiment may have made the most important scientific discovery in physics for over half a century.
These massive machines are very sensitive and the GEO600 team spend most of their time isolating noise sources. They were plagued with an inexplicable source of noise they could not isolate. A physicist at the Fermilab particle physics lab in Illinois, Graig Hoga, approached them when he realized that their stalemate was in fact exactly as he predicted. It potentially represented the fundamental limit of space time – a point where space-time turns from a smooth continuum and dissolves into “grains” (similar to how the letters on your screen turn into pixels when you zoom in).
Graig Hoga said , “If the GEO600 result is what I suspect it is, then we are all living in a giant cosmic hologram.” Apparently his statement has firm theoretical footing and our everyday life may be a holographic projection of physical processes taking place on a distant 2D surface. Unbelievable stuff!
This raises so many philosophical and spiritual questions e.g. fate, free choice etc. Lets see what the great thinkers and philosophers come up with in the months to come.
