Are we really in control of the choices and decisions we make?
Do we really act rationally?
Behavioral economist Dan Ariely and the author of “Predictably Irrational” shows how we are not as rational as we might think are when we make decisions. In fact we can be easily directed by others into irrational decisions. In this very humorous and entertaining Ted presentation Dan uses some classic visual illusions and his own research to illustrate his point – it’s really short so takes no time to watch.
Advertisers, marketers and even stock brokers make lots of money from our “cognitive limitation and illusions”. For example, If we don’t know what to do, we usually just pick what was chosen for us. Dan’s findings and research are good to know.
Dan’s papers are available free at MIT University.
